The Murphy
About This Spot
Stepping into The Murphy in Tynemouth, you're immediately welcomed by a warm, unhurried vibe that perfectly suits its seaside North Shields setting. It is the kind of place where the chatter is easy and familiar, a comfortable gathering spot whether you’re here for the excitement of live music, the thrill of a match on screen, or a relaxed catch-up over drinks.
The atmosphere feels thoughtfully lived-in, balancing the laid-back spirit of a local neighborhood bar with the lively buzz of a well-loved live music venue. On quieter afternoons, the soft hum of easy conversation and the friendly nods from staff make it feel like an extension of your own living room. When the footfall picks up—especially during game days or evenings with music—the room swells with energy, good-natured competition, and conviviality that draws in all kinds of crowd.
Food here feels like a heartfelt celebration of local and classic flavors, served without fuss but with care. It’s the kind of menu you can dive into whether you’re after something richly satisfying after work or a taste of something a little more adventurous as the night unfolds. Imagine settling in with perfectly crispy onion rings, hearty Sunday roasts, or the comforting warmth of a Moroccan lamb flatbread, paired with a well-chosen pint or a vibrant spritz. You feel that balance between indulgence and approachability on every plate.
What resonates most about The Murphy is how it manages to feel both familiar and special—a gathering place where staff know your name, offer a smile, and make sure everything flows smoothly, whether for a casual pint or a private function. It’s a spot where time slows just enough for good company, good music, and good stories to come naturally.

Monday afternoon visit so difficult to comment on atmosphere as it was pretty empty. Really nice cosy feel.

We had our wedding here at the quay taphouse on the 26th of august 2023 and was honestly one of the best days ever. The staff were absolutely amazing and helped the day to run so smoothly. The barman who was working upstairs for us was so friendly and everyone said how lovely he was! Thank you to the manager for helping so much too! The food was absolutely amazing and came out with absolutely no faults at all! Can’t wait to visit again! Thank you so much x

Footy fans pop in. Great atmosphere, friendly staff Spin the wheel, you can get cheap drinks & if you're lucky they could be free

Booked a private function here and the service we received from booking to the actual event eas first class. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the room was perfect. The food was absolutely amazing and excellent value for money! Would highly recommend for functions

The Taphouse was great. Great beers, great service, nice decor. The Murphy is not an improvement. Horrible decor which makes it dark and feels cramped. The great menu that was has been replaced by an over priced burger menu, which are not worth the money. RIP tap house. In retrospect this review was a bit harsh. It was a massive change from the old place, but I’ve since been in a number of more times and you are made to feel welcome. The staff are nice and friendly and the wheel for free drinks etc is always a fun aspect. I’ve not tried the food since we started going back in, but it’s on the cards. Score adjusted accordingly.
